COURSE IN JOURNALISM
LECTURES AT UNIVERSITY COUNCIL APPROVES SCHEME The proposal to conduct an advanced course of winter lectures in journalism at Auckland University College was approved by the college council at its meeting yesterday afternoon. In a letter to the council, Air. Alan Mulgan, lecturer in journalism, gave details of the suggested course and recommended that the general public as well as working journalists be invited to attend. Mr. Mulgan said the lectures would deal with different phases of journalistic life. Practical assistance had been offered by a number of persons, including Sir Cecil Leys, manag-ing-director of New Zealand Newspapers, Limited, Mr. R. M. Hacket, editor of the New Zealand Herald, and Mr. J. M. Hardcastle, manager of Wilson and Horton. Limited, while the Journalists' Association was sympathetic toward the project. "I think it is an excellent proposal," said Mr. Kenneth Mackenzie, president of the council, in moving that the council should approve the lectures and thank Mr. Mulgan for advancing the scheme. was unanimously carried, and it was resolved that no charge should be made to those attending the lectures. Mr Mackenzie said it was only fitting that university facilities should be granted to journalists in view of the assistance given to the college by the press 'The first of the lectures will be delivered on June 5.
