"BOYS IN WINTER"
Sir, —I have just received a letter from a mother, which pertinently sots out the needs of lads who, on very small wages, arc facing the rigorous conditions of country life in the winter. Discarded, but useful clothing and boots would be a boon to scores of lads, and my committee would be very pleased to hear of such supplies. The letter reads inter alia:—"Twelve months ago my son obtained a position on a farm. I have just returned from a visit, and thank you for getting the boy work .... clothes are a big item on such a farm —oilcoats, gum boots and good thick, warm trousers, and I find they aro too expensivo for tho boy on a small wage. I am not in a position to help. . . . Ho is one of a family of eight, and he has secured a job for his younger brother on tho next farm. . . . I feel content as regards their homes and will be glad to hear what help I can get—they need so many changes of clothes." N. G. Gribblb, Secretary, Auckland Boys' Employment Committee.
