TELEGRAPH SERVICES
MOST LINES REPAIRED TELEPHONES OUT OF ORDER Maintenance gangs worked from daylight to dark throughout the Auckland Province yesterday, repairing the damage caused to telegraph lines by Thursday's gale. By last night most of the lines were again in working order, although repairs to lines in the Bay of Plenty district, where damage was fairly extensive, are not yet completed. Numbers of complaints from telephone subscribers in the city, whoso telephones had been put out of commission by the storm, were received by the Post and Telegraph Department yesterday, but although every available man was employed all repairs have not yet been completed. Owing to the large number telephones out of commission the maintenance staff had to be augmented bv members of the construction staff. No damage to main cables was reported. Yesterday's rain, which penetrated the insulation of wires already weakened by the gale, made repairs difficult in many cases. It is expected that repairs will be completed to-day.
