GOVERNOR SUED

WIDOW'S DAMAGES CLAIM ATTITUDE TOWARD - LYNCHING SAN FRANCISCO. April 24 The attitude of the Governor of California, Mr. James Rolph, toward murderers still brings him into the foreground. Mrs. Holmes and her children have entered a suit for 1,000,000 dollars damages against him and the sheriff of San Jose County, on the charge they "feloniously and maliciously'.' incited a riot, and approved of thfc lynching of the woman's husband for the murder of Mr; Brooke Hart.

A bitter legal fight is expected, as Mr. Rolph's political enemies are believed to be financing Mrs. Holmes. She claims that she possesses- a flashlight photograph depicting many prominent citizens frenziedly engaged in the lynching. " -> - The starting of this suit did not prevent Sir. Rolph from applauding another person —this time a woman for taking the law into her own hands. In Los Angeles, last January, Mrs. Kosaria Ciani poured boiling lard on her sleeping husband, then killed him with an axe.

To-day, the Governor set her free, commenting: " The records show that Ciani was horribly brutal to his wife and their seven children. It was justifiable homicide, and I want to get her out of gaol and home again, so that she can celebrate Mothers' Day with her offspring."
