FIRE FIGHTERS

Sir, —During last week our citizens, young and old, have had excellent tuition in the subject of fire prevention. What, however, has been done to encourage the human factor, the firemen —the men on whose loyalty and skill we almost wholly depend for this praiseworthy change for the better ? Insurance premiums have been reduced, but have the firemen. received any reward? Nothing has been published re an increase in wages —a very real way of showing appreciation. I have met and talked with modern Florence Nightingales, Grace Darlings, shipwrecked sailors and stewardesses, doctors, etc. They have all handed the laurel wreath to our fire-fighters. Surely some fitting recognition of the noble work of these heroes of peace should be made. Alexander MacGregor.
