SEQUEL TO COLLISION
& DANGEROUS DRIVING CHARGE
CONVICTION OF YOUTH [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Monday A plea of not guilty was entered in the Hamilton Police Court to-day by Desmond Randall McDevitt, aged 17, who wns charged with driving a motorlorry chassis in Victoria Street, Hamilton, on April 5, in a manner that might he dangerous to the public. Tho case was a sequel to a collision. After evidence had been heard Mr. Tompkins, who appeared for the defence, said that defendant had lost his employment as the result of the Occident. Counsel asked for leniency.
The magistrate, Mr. S. L. Paterson, said it was clear defendant was inattentive and showed lack of responsibility. The magistrate was not satisfied with defendant's evidence. Defendant was convicted and ordered to pay the costs and expenses, £1 7s. His licence was endorsed.
