AUCKLAND HOME SERVICE
A BUSY MONTH Tho mooting of the Home Service Association was held in the Y.W.C.A., Mrs. J. T. F. Mitchell presiding. Present were: —Mesdanies G. Cruiokshank, J. J. Kingston, N. Wade, T. Derrick, John Cook, A. M. Ross, G. S. Cainmell, W. Traill, H. W. Airey, A. Cameron, F. Bauer, Wicksteed, A. K. Kemblc, E. I. A. Macdonald, N. P. Yvilliamson. It was decided to print an abridged sheet of rules to save long explanations by letter, as inquirers often found it difficult to understand the annual membership fee, with the small call fee for each engagement. Reports showed that March had been a busy month, with 66 engagements, a number _ being housekeepers sent at short notice to families in which tho mother had been taken ill. A considerable number of part-time workers had been supplied and 'tho office was. most anxious to find suitable persons to fit in with the very varied needs of these cases, which formed a growing branch of the association s work. Extensive interviewing was necessary in filling some positions, such as married couples for farms, and as many as 60 couples were interviewed for one such post. The work of choosing and sending voting women to fill posts 111 back-block.districts was also a growing branch of the manager's work, and m most cases no difficulty was found in filling these positions, especially in the Auckland Province. The Home Service was being appealed to for helps by a number of Auckland institutions and tho committee was most anxious that its organisation should co-operate usefully with the various societies doing work in tho city.
