EPSOM SHOWGROUNDS
DIFFICULTY WITH LEASE IMPROVEMENTS SUSPENDED A decision not to proceed with the proposed improvement scheme at the Epsom Showgrounds until the renewal of the lease of the property was finalised with the Cornwall Park trustees was made at a meeting of the council of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association yesterday. The matter is not likely to be settled until toward the end of the year, as legislation will need to be passed before finality can be reached. The new lease will be for 40 years. Sympathy was expressed with tho relatives of the late Mr. A. D. Stanley, managing secretary of the association from 1919 to 1927, whose death occurred recently in Australia, and the late Mr. E. G. Eliott, a member of the association, who lost his life by drowning. Messrs. J. P. Kalaugher and M. B. Kirkbride, vice-presidents, were appointed delegates to the Auckland Provincial Council, the president, Mr. S. Austi:n Carr., and the managing secretary, Mr. W. F. O'Donnell, being ex officio members.
