MEMORIAL IN CHAPEL
KING'S COLLEGE OLD BOY A tablet in memory of the late Mr. John Cull en Burns, who died at Trenthain Camp during the war at the age of 35, was unveiled in tho King's School chapel, Renmcra, yesterday afternoon bv Lieut.-Colonel T. H. Dawson, and dedicated bv Canon E. H. Strong, warden of St. John's College. The service was conducted by the Rev. J. M. Beaufort, headmaster of King's School. Mr. Burns, who was a son of tho late Mr. John Burns, was a notable old boy of King's College, which he attended when it was in tho buildings now occupied by the preparatory school. He was a governor of tho college at tho time of his death. The tablet is "in memory of John Cullen Bums, late sergeant-major of D Company, 43rd Reinforcements, Now Zealand Expeditionary Force, died on the ove of embarkation for France, August 23, 1918.." The tablet was erected by officers, non-commissioned officers ami men of tho company. " 1 Happy ' is tho word which best describes 'Johnny' Burns, as we used to call him," said Canon Strong, who was chaplain of King's College when Mr. Burns was a pupil. "Ho was happy in his wonderful parents, happy in his relationships with masters and boys, happy in all his relationships. I remember much personal kindness and school spirit in his make-up. It is fine to think that hero in this chapel one of the most fervent and loyal and splendid products of this school iB, remembered."
