The winner of this prize was ticket number 147446, held by R.H.H.C., care of the Tablet office, Dunedin. The Hkraxd's Dunedin correspondent telegraphed: —"It is doubtful whether there was a more delighted young man in Dunedin to-night than Hon Cusack, when he was informed that lie had won tlio £2OOO. Cusack, who is a linotype operator, employed in the New Zealand Tablet Office was enjoying a game of cards at tlio time at the Hibernian Social Club, at Cargill's Corner, and when told of his good fortune immediately rushed into the card room and cried, 'Boys, 1 have struck Tatt's for £2000.' The only response for a moment was incredulous silence, but when it was impressed on his friends that he was in earnest, congratulations came thick and fast. " The lucky ticket was the first that Cusack had ever taken alone, although on various occasions ho has taken a share in one. 'I must go and tell my lady friend,' were his parting words as a reporter left him." PREVIOUS DOMINION SUCCESSES SOMIO FORTUNATE INVESTORS A considerable amount of good fortune has been experienced recently by New Zealand in sweepstakes drawn at Hobart, several of the winners being Aucklanders. First prizes of £6OOO were won by New Zealanders three times in the early part of last year, and the first prize again came to the Dominion in September last, when an Auckland syndicate of seven won £6OOO, the winning ticket being he]d under the initials of Mr. T. D. Anderson, of Dominion Road.
In October the third prize of £550 in the same lottery was won by residents of Dunedin, and the fourth prize of £350 by an Auckland syndicate of six young women. The following month a second prize of £3OOO was won by Mr. G. G. Burnside, of Green Island, Otago. A first prize of £6OOO again came to New Zealand in December, being won by Miss Rae McGregor, of Dunedin, while as recently as last month, first, third and ninth prizes were won by New Zealanders. The first prize, which on this occasion amounted to £12,000, was held by the "Lucky Triers" syndicate, comprising three employees of Alexander Harvey and Sons, Limited, of Auckland, and a mother and a wife of two of them. The third prize of £1250 was won by residents of Hamilton, and the ticket which won ninth prize was held in Nelson. Tho run of good fortune has not been confined to the Tasmanian consultations, a considerable number of prizes also having been won by New Zealanders in the New South Wales State lotteries and in overseas sweepstakes.
