THE WELLINGTON CLUB SPECIAL MEETING APPROVED [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Friday The dates committee has approved the Wellington Trotting Club's application for a special meeting on May 19 for which a permit wns available. Mr. L. S. Martin, owner of Walla Walla, tho Australian pacer, has agreed to the champion appearing in a special scratch race of li miles. His opponents will probably be Harold Logan, Red Shadow, Lindbergh and Glenrossie. AUCKLAND PACERS RETURN UNSUCCESSFUL SOUTHERN TRIP [by telegraph OWN correspondent] PALMERSTON NORTH. Friday The Auckland pacers Jewel Pointer and Kewpie's Triumph, who competed unsuccessfully at tho New Zealand Metropolitan Club's meeting at Addington, passed through Palmerslon North to-night, and will arrive home to-morrow morning. Although they had some hard racing, the Auckland horses are in good heart. Their respective trainers. S. M. August and J. Gee, are remaining hero for to-morrow's meeting, and will return to Auckland by motor on Sunday. SALE OF YEARLINGS PURCHASES YESTERDAY (Received April G, 9.55 p.m.) SYDNEY, April G At tho yearling stiles to-day a chestnut colt by Heroic from Shepherd Princess, described by the auctioneer as tho living image of his sire, brought 1100 guineas. Tho purchaser was Mr. R. Skelton. Another, by Heroic from Tresseith, also realised 1100 guineas. The purchaser was Mr. E. O'Sullivan.
A chestnut colt by Rampion fetched 500 guineas. Other Rampions made 85 to 275 guineas. A BTazen colt sold at 200 guineas arid Legionnaire stock realised 140 to 425 guineas. Caledon stock fetched 70 to 275 guineas and an Excitement filly 300 guineas. JOCKEYS' PREMIERSHIP ELLIS LEADING BY FOUR With four wins at Greymouth yesterday L. J. Ellis again assumed the lead in the New Zealand jockeys' winning list. His total for the season to date is now 64, against K. Voitre's 60.
