HAWERA ACTIVITIES PREPARATION OF JUMPERS RICHFIELD SHAPING WELL [from OUR OWN correspondent] HAWERA, Thursday With the Easter racing over, Hawera trainers are turning their attention to the Egmont and Wanganui Steeplechase meetings. The jumping season practically opens with the Egmont fixture, at which many performers have commenced notable careers. Increased prize-money is being offered this year.

Several jumpers are at present rindergoing regular schooling work on the Hawera tracks, including Copey, Stanchion and Chief Line, in J. Fryer's stable, Fantastic, under F. Ehrhorn's care, and Richfield, under the charge of H. Mills. M. Conway also has Monaghan ready to school as soon as the tracks become easier. Copey is 4 well forward and is bowling along well in his exorcise work, while nis jumping loaves little to be desired. Chief Lino and Stanchion can confidently bo expected to derive benefit from their recent hurdle racing experience. Richfield is an interesting newcomer to the ranks of jumpers and he is shaping very well for a, beginner. C. Jackson was unfortunate with his pair, Aga Khan and Diagano, at Feilding. Aga Khan struck himself while galloping on the morning of the first day's racing and could not be started, and Diagano went sore after his race on Saturday and was not produced on Easter Monday. Silver Wings, who won at Awapuni, added to her score another win and a dead-heat for second at Feilding. As a result of her three races she has lightened up a little, but the bright part about her racing was that her questionable-looking joint remained sound and thero is every prpspect that she will develop into a very useful three-year-old perforator. O. Cox returned from Auckland yesterday with Golden Hair, winner of tho Great Northern Oaks, who is to be spelled before being prepared for another trip to Australia in tho spring. During the season Golden Hair has started 10 times for six wins, one second and ono third, being only twice unplaced. Cox has receiv-ed several inquiries lor his three-year-old Round Table, but at present is not disposed to part with him. In all probability Round Table will bo taken to Australia with Golden Hair. On his last trip to Australia Cox was at a disadvantage in not having nis own working partner for Golden Hair. Taitoru, who contracted a cold and could not fulfil his Ellerslio engagements, has made a good recovery and has resumed track exercise. Ho promises to be in great bucklo for tho Hawera meeting, at which he is to tackle open company. The Tiger has reappeared on the tracks and looks well. During liia spell he has built up considerably. G. A. Richards has given him a course of road exercise, and, provided that liis back ailment does not recur. it is hoped that this brilliant sprinter will bo seen at his best ngain. The good hack St. Clara has also resumed light exercise and has freshened up nicely. Winter conditions should not trouble her. AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB NOMINATIONS NEXT FRIDAY Nominations for the meetings to bo held at Epsom by the Auckland Trotting Club and tho Northland Trotting Club on April 28 and 30 close at 5 p.m. next Friday. NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP Tho three-year-old D'Artagnan, who has been raced on lease by A. Cook, was returned to his owner after the autumn meeting at Ellerslie. He has since been leased by a patron of H. Calder's stable and is now a. member of that trainer's team at Avondalo. Mr. F. W. Stoncx's four-year-old gelding by Gamin from Solitudo, who is being trained at Ellerslie by R. E. Brown, has been named Gay Sol. When first placed in werk Gay Sol was inclined to be wayward, but, he lias settled down n.icely and is now doing his work sedately. Ho is a halfbrother to Sleepy Sol and is a more robust type than his relative. Few horses have a. more consistent record than Gay Broney, who since January 1 has had 16 starts for three wins, eight seconds and one third, having been four times unplaced. His stake-earnings during the period total £590. The veteran Seatown has been put into work again at Stratford and it is possible that in .Line ho will once more be seen at, Ellerslie, where lie has established a remarkable winter record. De Trop. who rail second in her first start at Hastings last Saturday, is a four-year-old mare by llyinestra from Tigeroy. dam of Royal Bengal, Tigerism and Gold Ruler. De Trop gained her name because she was three times given away by her breeder, Mr. C. H. Slater, but each time canto back on his hands. She is engaged again at Hastings to-day.
