FOLEY MEMORIAL FIELD KEEN CONTEST EXPECTED REVIEW OF THE PROSPECTS The Avondale Jockey Club s Autumn Jlpeting will be opened to-day, when the chief races will be the Foley Memorial Handicap and the Railway Handicap. The various events have filled well and there should be some very interesting racing. The win and place system of • betting will be in operation and there should bo sufficient runners in most of the races to provide three dividends on the place machine. Jn each race, the totalisator will close seven minutes before the starting time. Reeord Flight was second to Royal Secret at Pneroa and looks improved. He has any amount of speed, and. now that he is becoming more seasoned, may slay on better. Huskie and Etcetera have both shown promise and Safe Bank is an improver who finished fast when he ran third at PaerOa. Wee Pat is a possibility if 3he jumps out and Brown Lap would be dangerous if he reproduced his track form. Campanero is speedy and the best of the others may be Supreme Ruler and Express. Ornamental worked more freely on Thursday than she has been doing andshe should be seen to considerably more advantage here than she was in the open class at Ellerslie. United's solid condition should be a factor in his favour and Emancipation is a sound stayer who should make a forward showing. - Prince of Orange may require a little more racing, but Courthaven usually goes well in the class. Don't Lap and Gigantic should both make good showings. while Tenakoe. Glenrata and Sir Willonyx are all possibilities. Popular fancies may be ORNAMENTAL, UNITED, EMANCIPATION. Delrain has no recent form, but is capable of a solid performance when at his best. King Musk may be reserved for a later engagement, and, unless there is rain, Solomon may also be an absentee. Wait and See is a recent winner with good prospers and the consistent Roman Mascot must also be respected. Golden Sceptre and Lagoon should both Tun solid races, and Alpinus may be all the better for his outing at Ellerslie, where he appeared to be slightly above himself. A repetition of her Ellerslie running should give Coronis a chance and the big course should suit Solarium, who won at Te Rapa. Gold Pocket, Expectancy and Bonny Gay are others with chanceß, and the issue is very open. Some who may find favour are SOLARIUM, GOLDEN SCEPTRE. Curie is just returning to his best, form and should prove very dangerous. Last year's winner, L'Allegro. is nicely placed and his running among the sprinters at Ellerslie indicated that he is likely to win at any time. Gay Broney is solid and must be treated with respect. Others worthy of consideration are Cnrfex, Royal Artist, King March and Prolyxo and there is plenty of material for * fine contest. Popular fancies may include CURIE.' Form at. Ellei'slie indicates good chances for King Musk and Senior, who have both galloped well in the meantime. Werohia was by no means disgraced in the Great Northern St. Leger and evidently runs on fnirly well. Dark Marble has won at the distance and looks a picture. His prospects would be enhanced if rain were to fall and ease the track. Teels is capable of a solid effort if caught in the mood and Versant has improved with liis recent racins, although ho may not bo quite tit enough yet. Royal Gallnnt hns been working nicely, while Loombination and Wee Musk both stay well enough to be worthy of consideration with their light weights. Impasto made an excellent showing after getting away badly in the Islington Handicap at Ellerslie and "nis brilliancy should make him difficult to beat in this field. Chief Cook should not be out of it if started, but may keep an earlier engagement. King Mestor failed at Tauranga, but galloped nicely yesterday and may do better here.
