EXTRACTS FROM THE HERALD The following are extracts from the New Zealand Herald of April 8, 1884: Intelligence has been received from Kassala, a town in the Sudan, near the frontier of Abyssinia, that the Egyptian garrison there is in a critical condition, and the Governor of the town has appealed to the British for aid. At a meeting of the University College Council yesterday it was agreed, on the recommendation of the Professorial Board, to hold a public meeting to celebrate the beginning of the second year of the college's existence. Professor Thomas, who has been appointed chairman of the Professorial Board for the year, will deliver the inaugural address. The 30,000 trout ova brought by the Australia from San Francisco for the Acclimatisation Society has, it ' s stated, turned out in" an utterly unsatisfactory condition. The Mataura Ensign of April 1 contained a long account of the capture of a live moa.
