ONE-PRICE PARIS STORES
RIOTOUS OPPOSITION DEPUTIES APPROVE CLOSING PARIS, March 25 Violent demonstrations took place yesterday when a new one-price store was opened. No sooner liad the • doors been thrown open than an angry crowd swanned in, smashed the windows, threw part of the stock on the floor, attacked the staff and kept on shouting, "Down with all one-price stores." The demonstrators were mostly small shopkeepers who felt that their living was threatened by competition from the one-price stores. During the whole evening a great crowd stood about in front of the store in a threatening attitude. Just before the Chamber of Deputies adjourned, a law was passed providing for the closure of nil one-price stores within three months. This law, however, still requires the consent of the Senate, which at present is disinclined to give approval.
