THEFTS FROM HOUSE
ST. HELIER'S BAY BURGLAR r * VALUABLE GLASSES STOLEN A pair of Zeiss night-glasses, of the type issued exclusively to German naval commanders during the war, was among the articles, valued at about £25, which were stolen by a thief who entered the home of Mr. M. Connor in Riddell Road, St. Heliers Bay, early 011 Sunday morning. The glasses are valued at £22. A silver watch, a suitcase, a tobacco pouch and a 10s note were also stolen. The intruder worked quietly, and mado a careful selection of various articles in the kitchen. He took away a large tin of honey and an electric torch, and these, together with the contents of the missing suitcase, were found 011 Sunday morning in the garden. A noise was heard by Mr. Connor, but he did not attach any importance to it, thinking it was made by the cat. He actually called out to the animal, and did not realise until he woke 011 Sunday morning that the sound he had heard had probably been made by the thief. The glasses stolen were highly valued by Mr. Connor, who is an officer in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. After the war, he was attached to the Rhine flotilla for a year, and bought the glasses in Cologne. It is believed that the thief also called next door at the house of Mr. (J. Austin. It was found on Sunday morning that a new pair of boots was missing from near the back door.
