HARD COURT CHAMPIONSHIPS ROWLANDS WINS SINGLES FINALS DECIDED YESTERDAY Tho hartl court tennis championship tournament was concluded at the Windmill .Road courts yesterday. In the men's singles H. C. Rowlands was fully extended by A. .1). Brown, who led .'5 —1. in the final set. Rowlands, howover, speeded up the game and good volleying placed him level at 3 —all. From then on the ascendancy definitely swung to the Eden and Epsom player, Brown appearing to lose his grip of the match. The ladies' singles final between Miss Newton and Mrs. ITorrick went according to form, the latter not possessing sufficient severity of stroke to worry Miss Newton, who played very flteadily and won without being seriously threatened. 11. C. Rowlands and A. McKeown were successful in the men's doubles, their ability to take and hold the net position being the deciding factor in a well-played game against Brown and Porter. Misses Newton and Edwards had little difficulty in winning tlie ladies' doubles. Chief credit must go to Mrs. Herrick in the combined doubles final, when, partnered by A.
