DONALD'S SUCCESSES DEFEAT OF ANITA FAME [BY TKLEGJt.VFH —OWN COB.RESrONDK.NT] HAWERA. Monday Tho Hawera trotting meeting concluded to-day with fine racing. O. S. Donald was again the most successful driver, scoring four wins, which made eight for the meeting. The Auckland driver F. J. Smith won three races, making six for the meeting and raising his New Zealand total for the season to 35. The public made Blondie and Jester favourites for the Trial Handicap, and they fought, out an exciting finish. Blondie winning by a nose. The Jack Potts gelding put up an attractive performance, going 3.25 from a 3.40 mark. Audrey's Boy was the best of the others, but Manaska, after losing ground early, finished well in fourth place. Rus-'le, a hot favourite for the Ohawe Handicap, trailed Summertime and Welcome Guy for six furlongs, took charge at that point and won easily by three lengths. Welcome Guy challenged in the straight but broke. Wahnooka, who was coming fast on the outside, also left his feet. Welcome Guy got down again to finish second, with Earl Bingen third, and Summertime next. Bolinda King tried to win the Kaponga Handicap from end to end, but had no chance in the run homo with Guymond, who was driven a better race than on Saturday. The favourite, Anita. Fame, made an effort in the final stage, but was well beaten into third place. Free Logan quickly hit the front in tho Waimate Plains Handicap, while Gumdigger refused to strike a gait. Worthy Light followed Free Logan to tho mile and a-half post, where he began to move up. Logan turned for home two lengths ahead of the favourite, but once Smith let, Worthy Light go ho caught Free Logan in a flash to win by nearly two lengths. Smooger was third a long way back. Smith received an ovation on returning to the saddling paddock. Free Logan ran a sound race and paid a fine price. , , ~ Hard Words and Worthy Light had the, Patea Handicap to themselves and they also carried the" bulk of the investments, tho Aucklander being a better favourite than Hard Words, -whose form on Saturday was disappointing. Worthy Chief led from tho start until two furlongs from the .judge, where Hard Words drew level. Staying on better Hard Words won by two lengths Winshow was 20 lengths away third, and ; Highland Derby, who lost 100 yards at tho start, was next.. The Opunako Handicap, for trotters, resolved itself into an interesting duel between Wahnooka and Kuini, who were evenly backed. Crossing the top Wahnooka who was on Kuini's wheels, broke, and Smith turned for home two lengths in front, of ihe southerner. Inside the distance Kuini broke and Wahnooka went on to win hy three lengths, with Earl Bingen the same distance nway third. . There was a great finish in the Stewards Handicap, the back-marker, Iron Man. gettin" up to win by half a head from Wrackless, with Tecla a similar distance awny ,h Freo Logan quickly put .a break on the field in tho Kapuni Handicap, and along tho back Donurn and Nelson's Chum were i closest to the leaders. Donum took charge I approaching the straight and although Automatic made a dash he failed by four to catch Donum. Linella finished well into third place with Belle o Mine next.
