Wight and Ferguson were fairly evenly matched, but the latter was inclined to be erratic, especiallv off the tee, and Wight, who played a very steadv game, won at the seventeenth by 2 md 1. / Laidlaw sprang a surprise by defeating Ross by the comfortable margin of 4 and 3 His outward journey produced such fine figures that he turned for home 4 up. His total for the first nine holes was 33, or three under par. Ross failed to show his usual steadiness, especially in his short game and took only one hole of 15 played. The final'between Laidlaw and Wight will be played over 36 holes to-morrow.
