March 31 A message from St. Paul, Minnesota, states that policemen and Federal agents who for- nearly a month have been searching for the escaped criminal John Dilliniier, the ught they had trapped him to-dfty in his hiding place there. However, the desperate gangster and two companions, one of them a woman, fought their way through the police cordon with machine-guns and escaped in a motor-car. One of thi) trio was wounded, but there were no casualties among the police, although many shots were exchanged, John Dillinger, a notorious murderer and bank rubber, escaped from the Crown Point gaol. Indiana, on March 2 in the woman sheriff's motor-car, after he had held up a warder with a "pistol" of carved wood, and then gained possession of a m;;chine-gnn in the sheriff's office.
