LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
PROVINCIAL COUNCIL The quarterly meeting of the provincial council of the League of Slothers was held in tho Y.W.C.A. on Thursday last, Sirs. S. 0. English presiding. A vote of sympathy with Sirs. B. Bates in her recent bereavement was carried in silence, members standing in silence as a mark of respect. A welcome was extended to Sirs. Wright, the newlv-elccted president of Snndringbnm branch. Several remits were passed, to be forwarded to the Dominion Conference, which is to be held in Wellington later in the year. The president was appointed the league's delegate to the National Council of Women. How tho league should observe Slothers' Day in Slay was the subject of some discussion. As a combined church service is held at the beginning of each year at the officers' conference, it was decided not to hold another service in May, but that each branch should urge its members to make a point of attending their own place of worship oil Slothers' Day. As in former years, it was decided to place a. wreath on tho Cenotaph on Anzac Day, Sirs. English being deputed to make arrangements. A report on the steady progress of the recently-formed Newton East branch, was given by Sirs. Ohms, who has fostered tho branch from its inception. Its members come from the very poorest quarters of the city, and some sixty mothers attend the meetings regularly. A discussion took place on the ways and means of running such a branch, and it was arranged that a strong committee of 25 should be formed to take over the responsibility of the branch, each of the town branches to send one member to act on the committee.
