PINAL TRACK GALLOPS DIATOMOUS SPRINTS WELL [bv telegraph—OWN correspondent] CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday Conditions wero ideal for the windinc-un gallop 3 at Riccarton to-day. A fairly h&rd frost made tbo surface of tfco outside of the course proper slightly holding and times were not as fast as usual. Cricket Bat covered a mile in 1.44 2-5. Copyist reeled off half a mile along the back in 49 4-ss, the first furlong in 11 4-ss, two in 23 3-ss, and three in 86 4-ss. He is very well, but is a difficult horse for an apprentice to handle. Meprisant was not extended in recording 1.33 for seven furlongs. Shatter gave imperial Spear a three lengths lead starting over a mile gallop, but was on terms vyith him after nassins the half-mile, the pair finishing abreast in 1.45. Shatter ran bis first three furlongs in 37 2-5s and the first hnlf in 50 3-ss, and ho was not by any means ridden out over the last furlong. The Masquerader ran half a mile in 60s. Star Raider was two lengths iu front of Tout le Monde at the end of seven furlongs in 1.32 1-5. Dollar Prince and Custodian did well in galloping six furlonse in 1.17 3-5, finishing together, and their stable-mate Sibella occupied 1.19 3-5. Variant and Synagogue were companions over five furlongs in 1.4, the last half in 51s. They kept together for half a mile, but Variant then drew away and beat the visitor comfortably by two lengths. Silver Jest finished slightly in front of Invoice after covering five furlongs in 1.6 2-5, the last half in 525. Cleaner beat Rebel Song rather easily over six furlongs in 1,18 1-5. Argentic and Ranelagh ran the first half of a mile (ask in 50 4-ss, but wero allowed to take matters easily in the run home, the full journey taking 1.44 4-5. Croupier, with his trainer up, strode over seven furlongs in 1.32 1-5. He will strit> fitter on Monday than generally expected. Orris and Chidden were abreast at the end of five furlongs in 1.4 2-5, the last half in 51s. Rational 11. and Scratchmere Scar covered seven furlongs in 1.34. Cup Bearer and Red Dance ran four furlongs in 51 2-58, and similar tasks were credited to Friday Night in 555, lan's March and Hostile in 51 2-ss, Eibnnor and Tunfleller 51 2-5s and Bright Shade and Jolly Beggar 535. Garsome ran five furlongs in 1.4 2-5, the lost half in 50 4-ss. Some Shamble decisively beat Cough over seven furlongs in 1.31. Cranford,. with a good weight up, covered the same ground in 1.32 3-5. Metal Bird and Weatlierly kept together throughout five furlongs in 1.4, the last half in 51s. Master Reynard finished in front of Joyous over the same distance in 1.4. Silver Ring was kept well in hand over seven, furlongs in 1.29. tlio last half-mile in 51s. The best time for six furlongs wits credited to tbo speedy Diatomoun. who gave Hurlingham a 6olid beating in 1.16 3-5, the last, half in 50 3-ss. Ilurliugham piohably cousci have done better if desired. A rider in tho Great Easter has not been secured _ for Hurlinghara, but it is likely that E. Ludlow, who rode him in the gallop will havo the mount. Hurlingham and Ranelagh will be bracketed on the machine in this race. The Smuggler comfortably beat Davolo over seven furlongs in" 1.31 3-5. Rasouli, Punchestown, The Bailiff and Fleeting Glance each gp,ve a good display over two brush fences. Great Star and Review wore restricted to easy work. They have done most of their winding-up | gallops on off-days and although they have I not executed any startling tasks they are both well forward. Gi-eat Star invariably races well when fresh and is capable of I springing a surprise in any company and over any distance, and his prospects in the Great Easter cannot be taken too lightly.
