otahuhu high school RECENT STATEMENT ANSWERED Exception to the reported statement of Mr. J. Patterson at the Auckland Education Board meeting last week that the Otahuhu High School got all it ashed for while other schools were denied reasonable requirements was taken at the Otahuhu School Committee's meeting. The chairman, Mr. C. R. Petrie, said he would have expected Mr. v Patterson to have been better informed of tie actual position concerning Otahuhu High School. As a member of the Education Board Mr. Patterson must have known of the urgent need for additional classrooms, laboratories and workshop accommodation at Otahuhu. A list of these requirements was submitted to the hoard in Auckland, which actually endorsed it and requested the Education Department to make the required additions. The position at the moment; said Mr. Petrie, was that the only grant made available by the department was due to complete the inadequate workshops at the High School. With this grant the department proposed to extend the workshops and utilise tho building temporarily as classrooms. This wits a wise move on the part of the department, as it would relieve the serious overcrowding in classrooms, thus ohvi;;tincc tho building of another wins to the main scliooi building, and at the same time would provide workshops of a permanent nature. The committee authorised the chairman to take the necessary str M ;s to correct any erroneous impressions, caused through the board member's statement.
