An Easter Garden

There was silence in the garden as the lily ceased speaking The Rose: " You were there? " The Lily: " I was there. I was the love that was in the heart of Jesus." The Snowdrop: " I was there." The Rose: "And I." The Pansv: "And I." The Violet: "And I." The Weed: "And I." The Lily: " 1 do not remember. Why were you all there? " The Snowdrop: " I was the whiteness of His gown." The Violet: 1 was the joy that shono in the Mary's heart after sho had beheld Him in the garden, risen from the dead." The Rose: " 1 grew in the garden and scented the air and tinted the clouds with crimson." The Pansy: " I was the purple and blue of dusk." The Flowers: "And what were you, weed? " The Lily, sorrowfully: " What is this? A weed in that beautiful garden ? " The weed hung down its head and spoke in a hushed whisper: " 1 was the lie told by tho priests to the people." The Flowers: " Oh, shame! " The Lily, sorrowfully: " Oh, shame indeed." Tho Flowers: "We were all there, we were all there. Now do you remember, Lily? " The Lily, softly: "I remember. We were all there. Ours was the Garden through which He walked that first Easter morn."
