HINTS ABOUT PARAFFIN

The uses for paraffin are many and various. Here are a few that have value for the housewife: — Dusters are much more absorbent if a little paraffin is added to the water in which they are rinsed, as a light coating of paraffin remains after the water dries out. A cloth wrung out of paraffin is the ideal cleansing agent for removing stains and discolorations from glazed tiles. It ; s well to remember that paraffin oil deteriorates rapidly when exposed to the air. For that reason it should be kept in a well-corked bottle when not in use. When whitewash or kalsomine is splashed on floors or furniture it can be removed by rubbing with a cloth moistened with paraffin, which will not iniure the varnish or paint. Paraffin is the best medium for cleaning zinc baths, tubs, pails, etc. After cleaning, rinse thoroughly in hot, soapy water. When cleaning shoes, spots of blacking are liable to be spilled on the floor. Stains that develop from this oause can be removed immediately by applying paraffin to the stained surface. j Paint brushes should bo washed in paraffin or turpentine after use, and before being dipped in linseed oil and wrapped in clean paper. They will then be ready to store away for future use.
