R. Senior-Detective Hall said the youths decided to come to Auckland, and they took the car in Wellington. The thefts were committed on the journey north, and the car, which was damaged, was found abandoned at Mount Eden. All three were former Borstal boys, and their licences had been cancelled by the Minister.
