FROZEN AND CHILLED SMITHFIELD QUOTATIONS (Received March 30, 7.5 p.m.) LONDON, March 29 Following are the latest quotations for frozen and chilled meat, with those of the previous week for comparison:—

First, large, ex store . . . . 16/6 16/6 The weekly quotations are based on actual sales of wholesale quantities of carcases of mutton or lamb or of quarters of beef delivered to Smithficld market and/or London stores. They are compiled by the Quotations Committee, Smithfield. To arrive at the equivalent ex ship values one farthing per pound should be deducted from the prices quoted above. Quotations given ■ represent the average for the week, and are not selected lines, but for* parcels fairly representative of the bulk of shipments now on offer. LAMB MARKET FIRM BETTER DEMAND FOR EWES The weekly report of the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board states:— Lambs: The market remains very firm, especially for light-weights. Consumption is satisfactory. Mutton: The market for light-weight wethers is steady, but heavy-weight are weaker. Ewes are easier, but lower prices are improving the demand. Beef: The market is quiet and the demand is slow owing to the low prices of Argentine chilled beef. New Zealand porkers: Light-weights are easier owing to heavier supplies, but trade is good. New Zealand baconers: The market is steady and unchanged. THE CITY MARKETS HEAVY SUPPLIES AVAILABLE MANY LINES CHEAPER Heavy supplies of fruit and produce were available at the City Markets on Thursday and, although there was a good demand, values for many lines were lower. Apples and pears sold at unchanged prices, but there was a sharp fall in rates for tomatoes. Oranges sold readily, Californian navels being slightly dearer. Supplies of Tongan bananas, which were in over-ripe condition, were sacrificed at 7s to 9s a case, although others averaged 15s. Outdoor and hothouse grapes were available at lower prices. The vegetable market was oversupplied with celery and pumpkins and lower prices ruled for these. Potatoes and kumaras sold at slightly better values. Most root vegetables were obtainable at low rates. Tho supply of poultry was very heavy, but there was a fair demand and values were unchanged. Eggs sold at late rates. s Prices were:— FRUIT Apples.
