CARLAW PARK FETE

ST. JOHN AMBULANCE WORK The work of the St. John Ambulance Brigade in rendering first-aid to the injured at sports gatherings and public functions is well known, and tho annual competitions and demonstration at Carlaw Park this afternoon should attract a largo crowd. The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloo, and Lady Bledisloo will be present and will inspect the ambulance and nursing divisions. Simultaneously with the holding of tho competitions a varied programme will be presented, a feature of which will be tho appearance of six performing elephants from Wirths' Circus and an exhibition of tumbling and acrobatics by the Elroy Troupe. A spectacular rescue from a burning house, with tho co-operation of the fire brigade, should be another popular item. The programme also will include demonstrations of slimming by the pupils of Mrs. Leah Taylor, a physical culture display by a team from the Seddon Memorial Technical College, Maori dancing by girls of Vict6ria College and a novelty football match. Music will be provided by the Auckland Girls' Band.
