NORTH ISLAND LAMBS BEST WAIKATO PENS JUDGING AT SMITHFIELD [from ouk own correspondent] HAMILTON. Friday The Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association has received advice that the b*st pens in the Waikato group in connection with the North Island district lamb competition, as judged on the hooks at Smithfield, were as.follows: — G. de Vere Chitty, Hamilton (weight 331b., 351b. and 361b.), 1; C. Van Houtte (weight 371b., 371b., 371b.), 2; W. Dinnis, Hamilton (weight 361b., 391b., 391b.), 3. The judges said that the lambs were ideal for the English market. They carried neither internal nor external waste. The North Island competition was won by Wairarapa, Southern Ha\yke's Bay being second and Hawke's Bay -third. CANTERBURY FRUIT CROP REDUCTION IN EXPORTS EFFECT OF HAIL DAMAGE The first shipment of new season's apples from Canterbury, consisting of between 1500 and 2000 cases, has been made. It is estimated that between 15,000 and 20,000 cases of apples and pears will be sent overseas this season, compared with approximately 60,000 cases last year. Damage by hail and frost has contributed to the smaller shipments this season. The frost damage was not as extensive as at first believed, but hail has done considerable damage to fruit crojis. Not only has the hail made apples and pears unsuitable for export, but it has caused deterioration in some of the fruit to such an extent that the expense of grading it would not be warranted. AUSTRALIAN BEEF INTERESTS OF PRODUCERS SYDNEY, March 29 A conference of cattlemen to-day decided to ask the Graziers' Associations in the various States to alter their rides with a view to co-ordinatinc the efforts to place the beef producing industry ou a firmer basis. It was also decided to ask the Federal Govern meat to oppose the imposition of any quota which would hinder the development of the chilled beef trade. COTTON, RUBBER, JUTE, ETC.
