VARIETY OF ATTRACTIONS PROGRAMME FOR TO-DAY PLACING AT ELLERSLIE A wide variety of Easter holiday attractions has boon arranged for to-day in Auckland. One of the most popular sporting events trill be the opening of the Auckland Racing Club's, nicotine at EUerslie. Favoured with pood weather, there should be a large attendance, for interesting racing is promised. The most interesting cricket ma' -h will be thp continuation of the game between the Auckland and Hawke's Bay representatives ;at Eden Park.

Many golfing enthusiasts will gather r.i the Titirangi links to-day. when the Auckland championship will be commenced. The event wj]i be of special interest owing to the presence among the competitors of the New South Wales and New Zealand Kirk-Windeyer Cup representatives. The Maungakiekie Golf Club's Easter Cup competition and concurrent 36-holes medal handicap will be commenced at the One Tree Hill links. The various Auckland and suburban bowling greens will be crowded with players to-day during the continuation of the Auckland Centre's tournament, which began yesterday. The Auckland Tennis Association's hard-court championships, which also began yesterday at the Windmill Road courts, will be advanced a further stage to-day. In aid of St. John Ambulance funds, a spectacular fete will be held at Carlaw Park this afternoon. Included in a | comprehensive programme of events will Ibe a display of modern ambulance | methods, and at two o'clock the brigade ; and nursing divisions will be Lby the Governor-General. Lord Bledis- \ loe, and Lady Bledisloe. There will also j be a representation of modern fire-fight-j ing methods, a physical drill demonstra--1 tion by a class of girls under the ! direction of Mrs. Leah Taylor, and a | physical drill display by pupils of the i Seddon Memorial Technical College. I Items also will be given by members of ! Wirths" Circus, including a performance by six elephants. The annual Rugby competition between Marist teams from various North Island centres for the Spillane Cup will be commenced at Blandford Park this morning, and will be continued in the afternoon. Several picnic excursions to various parts of the Gulf have been arranged for tc-day. Those who are remaining in the city will be well catered for this evening, when special Easter programmes will be screened at the picture theatres, while there will be special j attractions at cabarets.
