I NEW YORK CITY VIOLENT TAXI-DRIVERS STRIKE IN PROGRESS ASS AULTS PERPETRATED MANY CABS DESTROYED By Telesraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received March 23. 8.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, Mnrch 22 Intermittent rioting occurred in New Fork last night, when 3000 taxi-drivers rho are on strike fought the police and WTecked the vehicles of non-strikers. The same group marched to the City Hall to-day to lav their grievances before the Mayor, Mr. F. H. La Guardia. The strikers stormed through Lower Broadway, destroyed 30 cabs, assaulted 25 chauffeurs, and stripped off their clothing, dragged out men and women passengers from passing taxis, beat drivers into unconsciousness and paralysed the traffic arteries. The dispute hinges upon the unwillingness of one of the largest transportation companies in the city to recognise an out-side labour organisation, whereas the drivers refuse to join the company union.
