VISION OF THE FUTURE

H. G. WELLS' NEW FILM COLLABORATION WITH KORDA Mr. H. G. Wells is engaged upon his first film production. For some time he has been at Bournemouth putting the finishing touches to the synopsis, and very shortly he will go to Elstree, where the film is to be made. The film -o-iil embody those* imaginative scientific ideas which formed the subject of sqme of his earlier works, and will show the remarkable stage to which civilisation may advance 50 years from now. Mr. Wells 'visualises strange cities with giant buildings and wonderful machines —a robot age in which powerful monsters of iron and steel are held in leash at the end of a slender wire and released by the pressure of a button.

" The film will probably be called ' Whither Mankind,' " Mr. Wells stated, "and about £60,000 is to be spent upon it. I am going to work invself upon the production in collaboration with Mr. Alexander Korda, who produced ' The Private Life of Henry VIII.' and ' Catherine the Great.' " Mr. Wells added that until recently he was not greatly impressed with the film as a medium for showing such scientific operations, but the great improvements embodied in the screen version of his story, " The Invisible Man," which was produced at Hollywood and was released in the spring, had caused him to alter his views.
