MAN'S WALLET STOLEN

INCIDENT AT NGARUAWAHIA ACCUSED SENT TO PRISON [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON". Friday A sentence of six months' imprisonment was imposed by Mr. F. W. Platts, S.M., in the Hamilton Police Court today .on John Sanford Valvoi, aged 34, who pleaded guilty to stealing a wallet and £3 10s, the property of Roy Campbell Curtis. Detective-Sergeant Thompson said the theft took place in a Ngaruawahia hotel on the night before the Ngaruawahia Regatta. The complainant was pulled about by accused and another man, and later he missed his wallet. When accused was searched an unemployment levy book owned by complainant was found in his possession. The detective-sergeant described accused as a parasite and as an associate of undesirables. He had previous confor theft and'assault. Mr. J. F. Strang, for accused, said that Valvoi was under the influence of liquor at the time, c and had lost his sense of control. He was not alone in connection with the offence. Counsel asked for leniency.
