PROTECTION OF WOMEN
PRICE OF MILK The monthly meeting of the executive of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children was held on Monday afternoon. The president, Mr. A. J. Stratford, presided. The Rev. Ivo Bertram was welcomed as a new vice-presi-dent representing the Presbyterian Church, and Mrs. A. J. Hutchinson was also welcomed to the executive. The reports showed a particularly heavy month's work, oil interviews having been held in the office, while 105 visits had been made to homes, institutions, etc. Concern was expressed at the extremely light, sentences meted out in many cases of sexual offences against children, and a resolution to this effect is being sent to the Minister of Justice. A strong protest was expressed at the raising of the price ot milk, as this must constitute hardship to women, children jmd aged pensioners. Mrs. Bates gave a report of the progress of the newly-formed branch in Whangarei. Mesdames Nielsen and Bates were appointed delegates to the National Council of Women.
