PRISONERS' TRANSPORT
NO DISTINCTION RECOGNISED STATEMENT BY MINISTER [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] WELLINGTON'. Tuesday The Minister of Justice, Hon. J. G. Cobbe, whose attention has been drawn to newspaper criticism of the Prisons Department's refusal to permit 0. F. Nelson to travel from the Samoa steamer to the Paparua prison in a taxi, and to a suggestion that he was entitled to this privilege as a political prisoner, replied: "The Prisons Department recognises no -distinction between prisoners. It recognises no rank or distinction. On receiving instructions that a certain prisoner has arrived, it has to convey. him to the prison. The department cannot allow prisoners to decide their own method of conveyance."
