The total employed in this trade at February 19 'was 89,000 more than at the corresponding date last .year.
A favourable indication for t-lio immediate future of the metal industries is the increase in employment in iron and steel manufacture. Unemployment declined in every division last month, although in the north-eastern section, owing to the si*ate of the coal industry, the decline was small.
