SCHOLARSHIP OFFER

HONOUR FOR MR. D. M. RAE EDUCATION BOARD'S APPROVAL Refereuce to the Carnegie Corporation's offer of a travelling scholarship of :2000 dollars to Mr, D. M. Rae, principal of the. Auckland Training College, for educational investigation abroad, was made at a meeting of . the Auckland Education Board yesterday.

The chairman, Mr. T. U. Wells, said he considered the board should congratulate Mr. Ilae on the honour that had been conferred on him and the Education Department should be urged to provide facilities for Mr. Rao to take advantage of the offer. He felt that Mr. Rao should bo given leave of absence on salary for the purpose. He was just the type of man who would secure the most benefits for educational welfare in New Zealand from such an investigation of methods in England and America. A motion congratulating Mr. Rae and urging the department to grant him facilities was carried, and it was also decided to write to the Carnegie Corporation expressing appreciation of tho work it was ca.rrying out for education interests in the Dominion.
