VALUABLE COLLECTION
ANTIQUES WORTH £20,000 PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFETY Special precautions are to bo taken for the safety of £20,000 worth of antiques to be exhibited at Hawera this week. Vigilance will not be relaxed until alii the exhibits, which have been loaned bj Taranaki collectors, have been returned. Many of the collectors are unable to pet a f value on their articles and £20,000 is only an estimate of the total worth of the exhibition. Perhaps the most valuable item in the collection is a piece of Brussels lace valued at £3OO, arid a piece of eggshell Nanking china is estimated to be worth £SO. These two ill astral the value of the collection. During/ the time the exhibition is open there will be guards at the door, while the others will patrol the hall ceaselessly. At night guards will be in the hall;, which will be kept illuminated. Every Attempt is being made to ensure the safety of the exhibits. Most of the articles have considerable intrinsic value, but from a collector's _ viewpoint the value is very much higher. It is impossible to calculate what tlfcie total value of the exhibition iniy bo to collectors, but it is conEiidered that £20,000 would not be an over-estimate. Many of the items have U£ver been valued.
