OLYMPIC GAMES
PREPARATIONS IN GERMANY Invitations to 50 countries to take part in the Olympic Games of 1936 have now boon sent out from Berlin, worded in accordance with the Olympic statutes, but with this added paragraph: " The whole German nation hopes that the peoples of the world will accept the invitations and send strong teams." The Jewish question has made the participation of some countries uncertain, but, with the approval of Chancellor Hitler, extraordinary plans are being made to ensure that the first Oympiad in Germany shall be the most successful of all. Here are a few facts worthy of digestion bv possible competitors:—By order of Herr Hitler, 285 acres of land in the Pichelsberg district are to be converted into a gigantic sports park. The land is to the west of Berlin, in beautifully wooded country. A racecourse existing there is to be abolished. The present, stadium is to be enlarged to hold 100,000 people. The area outside the stadium will be equipped as a festival ground for 250,000—the whole to be encircled by a wall of stands. A swimming pool .with covered stands is to be erected. A cycling track, with covered accommodation for 15,000, is to be built.
