DEBTOR'S MOTOR-CAR

COMMENT BY MAGISTRATE

[from our own correspondent]

WHANGAREI, Tuesday

When a Maori judgment debtor was being examined in the Magistrate's Court to-day, on his financial position, he said he received £ll 10s a month war pension, and this was his only income. He was married and had six young children.

Counsel for the creditor elicited the information that seven months ago the debtor purchased a new motor-car, although judgment for the present amount claimed had been obtained in 11)32. A distress warrant had been issued, but was later withdrawn on condition that £1 a month was paid, but after a time payment ceased. The Magistrate, Mr. G. N. Morris: This man only gels £ll 10s a month and yet pays half the amount in car instalments. I do not know how ho lives. I will make an order for £1 a month, as the judgment creditor is entitled to something in those circumstances.
