DAMAGES FOR LIBEL
TRAFFIC INSPECTOR WINS [by TELEGRAIH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday A claim for £75 damages for alleged libel was made in the 'Magistrate's Court to-day by the city traffic inspector, J. Bourke, against Charles Seymour Trillo, proprietor of Gold Band 'Taxis. Plaintiff alleged that Trillo, in a •letter to the chairman of the By-laws Committee of the City Council on Debember 19, had charged him with "being guilty of perjury and of gross misconduct in the discharge of his (duties, and that ho had acted unjustifiably and discreditably. The caso was. a sequel to a prosecution of a Gold Band taxi driver for a traffic breach.
The magistrate, after hearing evidence, said there was no doubt the istatements complained of were untrue and were maliciously made. It was necessary that plaintiff be reimbursed jior all possible expenses incurred in (3efending his character. ' Judgment was given for plaintiff for with costs.
