CATCHING A TRAIN
EXCITEMENT AT STATION
PARENTS, BABY AND LUGGAGE
A baby, the father, mother and some luggage caused a mild sensation on the Ohristchurch railway station one morning last week when the express for tbe south was leaving, says the Christchurch Times. The little group had been saying their ; farewells ,to friends,'.and most' of their luggage had been deposited in the carriage. So intent were they on those they "vrere leaving behind that the cry "All aboard" was not heeded. Whistle,? blew and still no move was made to join the train. Suddenly the father, carrying the baby, realised the position and ma de a rush for the carriage as the express began to pull out. He just managed to jump on and then saw his wife with the remainder of the luggage ..oh the platform. He called, and rndther, assisted by willing friends, made an eifort to board th£ train.
The father was handicapped with the baby and it looked an if there would tie a triple accident. Railway officials came to the resoue, however, and mother was saved from falling. Meanwhile father and baby jumped from the carriage platform and were also saved from falling by; bystanders. By this time excitement was t intense and the principal actors in the drama were most agitated, particularly the baby, who apparently was really frightened, and more so than ils parents. Somebody suggested a taxi to Addington. The trio irtui rushed outside iihe station and they were last; seen being bundled into the' cab. Meanwhile u railway official got in touch the Addington station and the express was held there. "That's the way accidents happen," Baid a visiting tourist. "My word, those people were lucky, I thought we were going to sen a bad itmash-up." t
