ONEHUNGA INTERESTS
SECOND COUNCIL VACANCY UNWATERING GEDDES BASIN Proposals submitted by the town clerk for tho conversion of borough loans were adopted by the Onehunga Borough Council at its meeting last evening, and ordered to be submitted to the Secretary of the Treasury for approval. The resignation of Mr. M. J. Moore was accepted, and the returning officer was instructed to take the necessary steps to iill this vacancy, and also that caused by the resignation of the Rev. J. Craig. Nominations of candidates will close 011 March 10, and a poll of ratepayers for the election of t\£o members of the council will be taken on March 21. /A'
Reporting on the closing of Geddes Basin, tho foreman of works reported that reasonable progress was being made in tho effort to exclude the tidal water from the area. He stated that a culvert had been extended t"o the full width and a clay core had been placed through the whole length of tho stone wall, with satisfactory results, although water was still finding its way through the wall ii» places. The engineer to the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board conferred with tho council-in-committeo on February 26, and explained his proposed sewerage and drainage scheme for the metropolitan area. In tho course of his remarks he said that Onehuliga's proportion of the estimated cost would amount to 4.01 per cent. The council deferred its decision.
