ROBBED CASH TILL
RELIEF WORKER'S OFFIENCE "While I was in the back getting his supper I heard the cash register bell ring, and on reaching the shop I saw this man reaching over the tili," said Mrs. Annie Grbic in the Onehunga Police Court' yesterday, when a young married man, Leslie James McPike (Mr. A. A. Coates), pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing 31s in money, the property of Iran Grbic, fish dealer, Onehunga. Mrs. Grbic said that on the evening of February 22 accused came into the shop and ordered a fish supper. Ivan Grbic, proprietor of the shop, said that on checking the contents of the cash register he discovered a shortage of 31s. For the defence, Mr. Coates contended that there was no case to answer, as direct proof was wanting of accused having taken the money. In reply to the ißench, Sergeant S. A. Brown said that accused was a relief worker. He had a clean record. The justices, Messrs. J. E.' Green and T. H. Geraghty, entered a conviction, and ordered accused to come up for sentence within 12 months if called upon. He was also ordered to make restitution of 31s and to pay costs, amounting to 18s 6d.
