BEAUTY OF MUSIC
BLIND MENS' BAND They may be blind, but they can make 0110 see the beauty of music. They are tho members of the Blackpool and Fylde Blind Band, claimed to bo tho only brass blind band in Britain. In a dimly-lit room, with a low, raftered roof, the bandsmen were getting ready for Christmas. When they work at a now piece tho secretary,. Mr. Percy Hargreaves, takes it down in braille as the " sighted " bandmaster dictates. Each musician runs his trained fingers over his brailled part till he knows it by heart, and they practice together, a few bars at a time. Cornets and horns, euphonium and drums, manipulating stops and valves with wonderful"precision —listening with sharpened ears for the beat of tho baton, the men play with life and gaiety and dash. No longer blind, they see visions as they play.
