BOY'S LIFE PROLONGED " The operation was a brilliant piece of work, and shows the marvellous skill used in modern surgery," remarked the Southwark coroner at an inquest on Reginald A. Boot, aged 18, delivery boy, who was injured in a bicycle accident. Dr. John Oliver, of St. Thomas' Hospital, explained that when an operation was performed a quantity of blood that had escaped from the youth's injured liver into the . peritoneum cavity was filtered back into his circulation and this prolonged his life for 30 hours. The coroner, in returning a verdict of " Accidental death," described it as a very remarkable operation. The doctor replied that it was done often in cases of severe bleeding if the operation could be carried out quickly enough;
