MILITARY DECORATIONS

AWARDS FOR SERVICE UNIFORM EMPIRE DESIGN [BY TELEGRAPII —PIIESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Friday On order by the Defence Department for award to members of the Now Zealand Military Forces is a number of now standardised decorations and medals for the use of forces throughout the British Empire. In the past a distinct design has been used for each country of the Empire, but in future, except for a subsidiary indicating title, all the medals and decorations will be identical.

Tho efficiency decoration, awarded for 20 years' service as an officer of tho auxiliary forces of tho Empire, which in New Zealand applies to territorials, is a silver oval with gilt lettering and a Crown, attached to a green ribbon with a yellow centre stripe. This decoration is awarded by the GovernorGeneral. There are two medals for warrant officers of tho regular or permanent forces in the British Dominions and colonies nnd of the territorial forces. The first is a long-service and goodconduct modal, this being a silver medal on a crimson, white-edged ribbon, and it is a reward for 18 years' service with irreproachable character. For territorials, an oval efficienc\' medal, on a green, yellow-striped ribbon, recognises 12 years' continuous service, and clasps will be added on the completion of 18 years' and 24 years' service.

Both these medals will bo awarded by the General Officer commanding the New Zealand Forces.

Tho award regulations were gazetted last August, so members of the New Zealand Forces who have qualified for the medals and decorations since then will bo given new issues when tho consignment is delivered.
