WATERS RAPIDLY RECEDING WIDESPREAD DEVASTATION ' SYDNEY. Jan. 11 Light rain fell yesterday on the south coast of New South Wales and in Victoria, but the flood position is rapidly improving. Devastation caused by flood waters is visible on every hand. Thousands of acres of farm lands at Orbost, GipjJsland, are still submerged, but railway and telephone services have been restored. Agricultural experts state that 35,000 acres of rich farm land in the Orbost district have been rendered useless for at least a year.

People who were driven from their hbmeS have not yet been able to return.
