ROWING SKIFF SWAMPED

CREW RESCUED BY LAUNCH MISHAP AT NEW PLYMOUTH [by telegraph—own correspondent] NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday The New Plymouth Rowing Club's four-oar skiff was swamped off the end of the breakwater last evening, and the crew was in the water for a-quarter of an hour before being rescued by a launch. The skiff was being rowed by a lightweight crew, consisting of M.Keenan, L. Rutherford, F. Barlow and J. Durdle, with P. McKay as? coxswain. It had been rowed well out, but had turned back toward' the breakwater when the canvas covering the deck of the bow split and allowed the compartment to fill with water. It was impossible to rovr the skiff forward, as this would have driven it under, but the bulkhead in the stern kept it partly afloat.

The skiff, which cost the club £B3, was towed to the shore, and no gear was lost.
