Ulm had decided not to leavai Richmond this morning for his flight to New Zealand in the Faith in Australia. Earlier in the day Mr. Ulm stated that everything was ready for the flight, but the weather remained unsat-j isfactory. He was receiving reports three times a day concerning the weather conditions over the Tasman. The weather for the past week had been very unsettled over the entire route, said the airman, and the latest reports indicated that a strong head wind was blowing at a velocity cf about 30 miles an hour. He mentioned thai possibility of starting in the afternooni had the conditions been favourable. That would have meant an all-night, flight over the Tasman, but it would have ensured a daylight landing.
